A Brilliant Term for Growtheatre Youth Theatre – A Celebration of Creativity and Collaboration

As we reach the end of another term, we’re thrilled to reflect on the incredible progress made by all our Youth Theatre groups. This term has been a true celebration of creativity, collaboration, and courage. Every group has worked hard to develop their skills, get to know each other, and gel as a team. But what stands out the most is the fantastic work shared at our end-of-term events – a true showcase of the talent, imagination, and bravery that each group brought to the table.

The Juniors: Playful and Imaginative

The Junior Groups have been absolutely marvellous this term. Their focus was on developing key performance skills, narration, puppetry, and unleashing their creativity. Using the Brothers Grimm tale of The Golden Goose as a foundation, much of their work took place outside, allowing the young performers to incorporate nature and their surroundings into their scenes. This added a unique, playful energy to their performances.

The Juniors embraced the challenge of storytelling and developed their skills in a fun and imaginative way. Their performances were skilful, creative, and a joy to watch. While some children felt nervous, they handled it brilliantly, impressing their families and friends with their progress. The evening highlighted their hard work, and it was wonderful to see how much they had grown in confidence and performance ability.

The Intermediates: Courageous and Funny

Our Intermediate Groups took on the challenge of physical expression, slapstick comedy, and panto this term. We encouraged them to be expressive, courageous, and as over-the-top as possible – and they truly delivered! The highlight of their term was the creation of Peter Pan the Panto, where they developed fantastic characters, showcased their new skills, and got the audience thoroughly involved.

The laughter was non-stop as they fully embraced the comedy and exaggerated physicality of panto. We were so proud of how brave they were in stepping out of their comfort zones to perform big, bold characters. Their enthusiasm was infectious, filling the space with energy and fun. It was a brilliant way to cap off their term, and their performance left everyone smiling!

The Seniors: Bold and Provocative

The Senior Group dedicated this term to bonding and honing their collaboration skills, with a particular focus on bringing their best creative selves into every session. Through focus-based exercises, they learned to be fully present in the space, ready to contribute and create at their highest level.

The spotlight this term was on surrealism – a challenging yet exhilarating form of theatre that encouraged them to think outside the box, embrace the bizarre, and delve into the unsettling. They approached this with enthusiasm and curiosity, fully immersing themselves in the complexities of surrealist performance.

The Seniors shared their work exclusively with each other, creating a safe space for experimentation and growth. Each performance was entirely unique, pushing boundaries and sparking thought. Their pieces kept us all captivated, showcasing their understanding of surrealism and their ability to create bold, evocative work.

The term concluded with a thrilling murder mystery evening set at a movie premiere. With everyone dressed to the nines, the night was filled with laughter, intrigue, and larger-than-life characters – a fantastic way to end the term on a high note!
