We are so lucky to work with some amazing volunteers and we are always on the look out for more! Each and everyone of them brings so much enthusiasm and a willingness to contribute. Some of them are school-aged, some are at university and are working and volunteer in their spare time. Our volunteers help out with the Youth Theatre, some of our family events and we also have a social media volunteer – we value each and everyone of them!
Emily joined the Youth Theatre for a six week placement and stayed for the rest of the year – this is what she has to say about Growtheatre:
Volunteering with Growtheatre has given me a brilliant insight into what community theatre is. It has provided me with opportunities to lead theatre workshops with different age groups and gain experience of being in a position of authority and responsibility.
We work closely with local children and young people to create and explore different concepts of theatre, taking inspiration from the surrounding environment. We often create our work in different, secluded areas of the Ecclesall Woods in Sheffield.
We play fun and exciting games both indoors and outside and create innovative theatre together. It’s brilliant to see how the young people come together and share their ideas, dreams, ambitions and fears and create friendships that will last them a lifetime.
Volunteering with Growtheatre is a brilliant way to make contacts within the Youth Theatre community in Sheffield, gain experience leading workshops and have a lot of fun at the same time ! It has helped me gain experience that has lead to my employment with COAST and the Stephen Joseph Theatre.
Volunteering is so good for building up your CV or Actors portfolio, and there’s nowhere I’d rather do it than Grow!
