Growtheatre has been non stop this Summer working with some amazing organisations across Sheffield! We have been very lucky to be welcomed back to the HAF programme delivering sessions for Manor Castle Development Trust, Sharrow Community Forum, Darnall Wellbeing and Zest. We have also had the pleasure of working with Sheffield Children’s University on their Festival of Fun programme as well as delivering our very own sessions for families at Ecclesall Woods.
Knowing that we get to spend an entire Summer working outdoors, meeting new and old friends and having fun is one of our most favourite times of year! We have been on so many different adventures, explored worlds near and far and met some exciting new characters along the way! The family sessions were full of fun, drama and lots of crafting, from; mud painting, obstacle course building to making bows and arrows and superhero costumes. We love getting to work with families and ensuring that grown-ups have time to ‘play’ with their children. We encourage everyone of all ages to get involved with the games and tasks at hand and it’s two hours of family time, which is always very well received
We also explored our new drama club that we run. We had the great opportunity to work at Arbourthorne Community Primary School, Phillimore Primary School and Norfolk Community Primary School to lead a 3 day drama course for children to attend and learn new drama and bushcraft skills through an exciting theme. We explored magic, hero’s and villains and we learnt lots of cool new skills such as leaf bashing, den building and more.
Taking part in Children’s University, Festival of Fun is such a great opportunity to be a part of! Not only do we get to work with lots of children that are eager to attend activities to further their learning, but we get to work in some pretty amazing spaces and respond to the places we work in! This year we got to work in Firth, Hillsborough, Norfolk and Millhouses Park as we visited Robin Hood and trained to be part of his band of outlaws.
We have loved every opportunity and session we have had this Summer and it has been amazing getting to meet new friends and families. Hopefully we get to see you all again soon and we will be back delivering before we know it!
