It’s Panto Season!
What an incredible term we are having with the Intermediate group. We began going back to basics in September as we welcomed old and new faces to the group, exploring themes such as improvisation, devised performances and basic performance skills. The group blew us away and each week we were finding they had a real knack for comedy and making us laugh!
This absolutely influenced our second half of the term as we introduced Pantomime to the group.
This would be the perfect time for ‘Oh no you didn’t’ well oh yes, we absolutely did!
We began exploring different stories told through pantomimes and what are some of the key elements that make up the funny remake of classic stories. The group quickly moved to getting up on their feet and having a go at bringing to life their own versions; we had a modern version of Aladdin with a very old genie, we met a clumsy Tinkerbell who blinded herself with her own pixie dust and even a very icy snow queen! We learnt about comedy through performance and we even went as far to look at Slapstick! We spoke of Mr Bean, Charlie Chaplin and more and the group were even brave enough to try a bit of slapstick comedy in their short pieces, which created lots of laughter.
We decided to put them to the test and invite parents and carers along in our second to last week to share what they have been working on. The group decided they would like to work on one pantomime and each group take a small scene to create one big final product. The sharing week was such a lovely and refreshing opportunity for families to come together and enjoy some live theatre created by their own children, something we haven’t been able to offer for a long time! After spending only 2 weeks rehearsing, devising and working together we give you, Growtheatre’s very own Pants of Peter Pan!
